Mercedes Quietly Plots Course for EV Sales in US

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class [shown here in Euro-spec trim] will form the basis of an EV or plug-in hybrid model here in the U.S., where the car will initially be sold as the CLA sedan beginning in mid-2013.

The official news is short and to the point: Mercedes-Benz is keeping a tight lid on its plans to sell electric-powered vehicles in the U.S. “We don’t have official information to share about future electric vehicle technologies regarding specific vehicle applications,” Christian Bokich, manager of product and technology PR at Mercedes-Benz USA, told PlugInCars.com this week. He stated “there’s no silver bullet” to the company’s approach towards improving mileage across its range of vehicles, though Bokich added Mercedes-Benz is certain to “expand its list of electric vehicles” both at home and abroad.
